Outline of Research at the Start

沖縄（亜熱帯地域）で発達した織物の伝統的な加工法の解明を通し，近年の長い夏の衣生活への沖縄の伝統布やその伝統的な仕上げ加工技術の活用を探索する．仕上げ加工が布の機能性等を決定することから，芭蕉布の化学的加工や宮古上布等の沖縄の苧麻布の物理的加工の原理を解明し，その効果を科学的に精査する．さらに得られた結果を現代の衣生活に活かすため，庶民が実際に伝統布を使っていた時代の衣生活を調べる．研究成果は，学術的な公表の他，産地の職人と共にシンポジウム等で広く一般にも公開する．本研究は日本の伝統織物の需要の開拓や伝統文化継承の一助となるばかりでなく，日本独自の研究の価値の創出に繋がる．
