Outline of Research at the Start

2024年現在、女子大学数は日本73校(全大学の9％)、アメリカ約28校(1％)である。アメリカでは1960年代後半より女子大学は減少し続けてきたが、日本では近年、その共学化や閉学が加速している。本研究は、次の三つの観点から調査・分析を行なう。
①どのような特性をもつ女子大学が共学化、閉学しているか、個々の大学特性や社会的要因を含めた統計データの分析から明らかにする。②共学化した日本とアメリカの大学を訪問し、共学に至る経緯と共学後の運営戦略・課題について聞き取りを行なう。③以上総合し、共学準備や共学化後の戦略に関する基礎資料を作成し、女子大学には新たな存立意義や改革を考えるための示唆を提示する。
