Outline of Research at the Start

Planktonic Foraminiferal Sharp Surface (PFSS) は新第三紀における最も顕著な浮遊性有孔虫化石の基準面であり、暖流系浮遊性有孔虫化石の産出上限として定義される。この基準面は東北日本の西黒沢階／女川階境界と一致するのみならず、軟体動物化石の古期／新期塩原型動物群の境界、および暖流系珪藻化石の産出上限ともほぼ一致することが明らかになり、その古海洋学的な意義について再評価の必要がある。本研究では、中期中新世以降のグローバルな寒冷化に伴う亜寒帯前線の移動について、PFSSの年代差から復元を試みる。
