Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、都心部を「近代建築」のビルが、郊外を戸建て住宅が覆うに至った戦後日本の都市空間の一大変貌を、「量を担う技術」に着目することで近現代都市史上に定位することを目的とする。この変貌は膨大な建設量に対応し、都市計画・住宅政策をある程度民間に任せる「量を担う技術」により可能になったもので、戦前に確立を見た都市専門官僚制からの転換の解明が鍵となる。「都市計画・住宅政策は何をもって現代へ転換したのか」「人々はどのように受容し建築・都市空間として実体化してきたのか」が核心をなす「問い」である。戦後の研究に戦前と接続する論点を提示し、戦後を組み込んだ通史記述を目指す点に特徴がある。
