Outline of Research at the Start

マングローブ環境では、利用できる植物種の少なさや環境の厳しさから昆虫の多様性は乏しいと考えられ、ほとんど研究されていない。さらに、一般に昆虫は環境変化に敏感に反応するため、環境指標生物として多くの生態系で活用されているが、マングローブではその可能性が十分に検討されていない。また、植林されたマングローブでは昆虫が少ないことも示唆されており、昆虫の多様性が環境に影響されることがうかがえる。これは、昆虫を用いたマングローブ環境の健全性評価に大きな可能性があることを示す。本研究では、こうした潜在的な多様性に着目し、「マングローブ昆虫」というマングローブ生態系の健全さを評価する新たな指標の提案を試みる。
