Outline of Research at the Start	松くい虫被害を受けた海岸クロマツ林はその再生が課題である。広葉樹に樹種転換する方法も有力な方法であるが、乾燥や飛塩などの影響が強い海岸砂丘地は植栽環境が厳しく、広葉樹の植栽技術は確立していない。本研究では我が国ではほとんど活用されることが無い保護樹に着目した。これまでの調査で保護樹によって地温上昇が抑制される効果は認められたが、土壌水分を維持する効果が認められなかった。本研究では土壌水分動態および保護樹や植栽木の水分吸収量を調査し、これまでの研究において土壌水分の保持が認められなかった原因を探求したうえで、保護樹の水分保持機能の発現方法の解明を目指す。
