Outline of Research at the Start	近代の幕開けとともに明治初期には皇室（本研究では天皇家・宮家）を中心に洋風建築や洋風庭園が導入され、皇室は日本の欧化政策の象徴となった。近代日本にはどのような皇室庭園が存在したのか、その実態を把握するために基礎的な調査研究を行う。現存する皇室関連庭園や庭園跡の現地調査に加え、非現存の皇室庭園を復元し顕在化するために、宮内庁書陵部を中心とした皇室庭園に関わる資料調査（図像・文献）を行い、データベースを作成し、皇室庭園の基本情報を収集整理しその全体像を明らかにする。
