Outline of Research at the Start

ニホンウナギは、その個体数の激減により絶滅が危惧されている。被食は、生物の個体数に大きく影響を与える要因のひとつであるが、本種の被食回避に関する知見は乏しい。申請者は、本種稚魚の捕食魚に対する攻撃回避行動および捕食魚に捕獲された後の脱出行動を明らかにしてきた。これらの被食回避の成否には、捕食魚の消化管構造や摂餌様式、本種の運動性能の違いなどが関係すると思われるが、その成否を分ける要因については未解明である。そこで本研究では、本種の運動性能、および捕食者の種類の違いによる捕獲前の攻撃回避率や捕獲後の脱出率の変化とその要因を明らかにし、本種の稚魚期の被食回避戦略の解明に貢献することを目的とする。
