Outline of Research at the Start

爬行亜目は15属46種が知られる海産底生のヒモムシ類である。この亜目の分類体系は「機能不全」を起こしており、属同定が極めて困難である。この「機能不全」が深海域や種多様性の高い熱帯域での動物相解明を阻んでいる。本研究の目的は、伝統的な手法（連続組織切片）によって内部形態を観察しなくても、系統的位置の情報のみによって未知種を属に同定できるような体制の確立である。これを実現するため、本研究では現有標本と追加標本の形態観察と分子系統解析、タイプ種の担名タイプ標本の形態観察、および適切な単系統群への属名の割り当てを行う。これにより後世の研究者たちによる新種記載が国際的に加速することが期待される。
