Outline of Research at the Start

一夫一妻は、ヒトや鳥類を除く動物では稀な配偶システムであり、その社会進化の解明は重要な課題である。一夫一妻が稀な哺乳類においても、近年、ペア外繁殖が確認されているが、社会的一夫一妻の哺乳類では、オスも子育てをするため、ペア外繁殖は非血縁者の養育につながる興味深い現象といえる。そこで本研究では、その進化的意義を探るため、社会的一夫一妻でオスも子育てを行うイヌ科の中でもタヌキに着目し、そのペア外繁殖の実態を解明し、イヌ科におけるペア外繁殖の進化過程を検討する。また、ペア外繁殖の利点として、遺伝的多様性の向上に着目し、ペアの血縁度とペア外繁殖の関係について解析を行う。
