Outline of Research at the Start

サルコペニアは要介護者の増加をもたらす要因であるが、現時点では運動療法以外に有用な治療法はなく、有効な治療薬開発は喫緊の課題である。サルコペニア病態の１つは骨格筋線維型構成の変化であるが、これまでに我々は、ヒトiPS細胞由来骨格筋細胞分化において、microRNA-494-3p（miR-494）が骨格筋線維型構成制御に重要な役割を担うことを報告した。そこで本研究では、骨格筋萎縮モデル個体を用いて、miR-494抑制による骨格筋萎縮改善効果および安全性を検証する。得られる成果は臨床応用に直結した治療薬開発につながる可能性を有すると考える。
