Outline of Research at the Start	化学療法や手術の侵襲による血糖変動が治療効果や予後に及ぼす影響についてはこれまでほとんど研究が実施されていない。今回、食道癌に対する食道亜全摘術直後の血糖低値が強力な予後不良因子であるという我々の研究データや高血糖が化学療法の治療効果を増強させるとの報告から、治療侵襲とそれに伴うサイトカイン反応により本来分泌される血糖上昇ホルモン（カウンターホルモン）の機能不全の病態が存在すると考えた。本研究の目的は、食道癌に対する治療侵襲への反応としての血糖変動が治療効果に及ぼす影響とそのメカニズムを明らかにし、グルコースやカウンターホルモン補充療法の可能性について探索することである。
