肺がんの主要な原因は喫煙であるが、肺がん全体の数割に非喫煙者の肺がんを認める。非喫煙者肺がんの病因に関しては、その詳細なメカニズムについては不明である。一方、変異シグネチャーの解析により、がんの発生要因である外的因子・内的因子に関する遺伝子の特徴的な痕跡が追跡可能になった。本研究では、環境因子を固定するために、同一個体に発生した多発発生肺がんに注目した。環境因子に関する詳細な情報を収集し、それぞれの検体に対して全ゲノム解析を行い、シグネチャーを検出する。受動喫煙等の肺がん発生への関与を検討し、その発がんメカニズムを明らかにすることで、非喫煙者肺がんの病因を解明する。
