Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、従来の治療では対応困難であった重症喘息やCOPD増悪頻回例の末梢気道に特化した難治化要因に対する新規治療戦略として、MCTの改善、粘液栓形成抑制、持続的末梢気道拡張などを標的とし、申請者らが保有する実験システムにより中枢と末梢の両気道の緻密で複雑な解析を可能とする点で国際的にも学術的独自性や創造性など多くの長所を有する。本研究により、これまで未解決であった難治性慢性気道炎症疾患に共通する末梢気道粘膜防御能の脆弱性を解決し、超高齢化社会を反映して社会問題となっている高齢者重症喘息や重症COPD症例の疾患コントロール向上と健康寿命の延伸を加速させることに繋げる。
