Outline of Research at the Start

新興呼吸器ウイルス感染症は2000年以降でも次々と発生し、いずれも高い致死率を示している。これらの最重症例はすべて呼吸不全を伴う急性呼吸窮迫症候群(ARDS)に至るが、治療成績は向上しつつあるものの病院死亡率は約40-60%と未だに高い。
これまでにも、インフルエンザ、COVID-19からのARDS発症/進行に関わる宿主側因子を探索しており、細菌叢の関与が示唆されている。本研究では、特定の細菌種がARDS発症に関与するか解析することで新規予防/治療法の検討を行う。呼吸器ウイルス感染症はARDS発症への経過を辿るため、その治療法の確立は懸念されるパンデミックに対しても貢献できると考えられる。
