Outline of Research at the Start

頚動脈狭窄症は脳梗塞の原因として重要な病態である。とくに、狭窄の原因は動脈硬化性のプラークが血管内費に発生することである。プラークが炎症をおこすと脳梗塞が発症する確率が急速に増加することが知られている。しかし、プラークの炎症を抑制するための決定的な治療方法は無い。我々のグループは本研究では、プラークの炎症が頚動脈の周囲に存在する脂肪組織と強調作用により増強することを発見した。本研究では脂肪組織が細胞老化ならいに死細胞となり頚動脈のプラークの炎症を引き起こしていることを証明して、まったく新しい治療法の開発を行う。
