Outline of Research at the Start

脊柱管狭窄に起因する神経障害は痛みやしびれを生じ、移動機能や日常生活動作の低下を引き起こす。脊柱管内で神経を障害する組織として黄色靭帯があげられるがその病理変化や変性過程の詳細は解明されていない。本研究では「黄色靭帯内の酸化還元バランスの破綻（酸化ストレス）が変性を惹起させ脊柱管狭窄症となる」という仮説を解く。脊柱管狭窄症における黄色靭帯の形態変化・質的変化を確認し、その中において酸化ストレスの病理的意義を明確にする。手術検体を採取し、黄色靭帯の変性（肥厚や線維化、石灰化）の発生に酸化ストレスが関与しているかどうかを測定し、その病理的意義を検証したい。
