Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、霊長類特有の黄斑・中心窩の組織形成メカニズムと、カロテノイドの役割を解明することを目的としています。黄斑は高解像度の視覚を担い、中心窩はその感度を高めます。しかし、マウスにはこれらの構造がなく、形成メカニズムは不明です。黄斑に蓄積するカロテノイドの意義も未解明です。そこで、マーモセット網膜とiPS細胞由来網膜オルガノイドを用いて、これらの謎を明らかにします。これらの研究を通じて、霊長類の視覚機能の理解を深め、将来的には視覚疾患の治療法開発に貢献することが期待されます。
