Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、仮想現実 <VR>が、認知症患者の歯科治療時の不安軽減に有効かどうかを明らかにすることを目的とする。認知症患者は、理解力の低下により歯科治療時に極度の不安を感じる場合があるため、何らかの不安軽減が必要となる。しかし、実際にはレスポンデント条件付け等の心理学的根拠に基づく不安軽減法が必ずしも有効とは言えないため、認知症患者の歯科治療時の不安軽減には鎮静剤を併用することがしばしばある。ただし、鎮静剤の使用は呼吸抑制や誤飲・誤嚥のリスクを増すため、使用は限定される。近年、抜歯などの口腔外科処置中のストレス軽減にVRによる「没入感」が有効であることが注目されている。
