Outline of Research at the Start

日本は風土病梅毒（bejel）の流行地ではないが、我々は分子生物学的手法を用いてこの疾患の原因菌Treponema pallidum subsp. endemicum（以下TEN）に感染した複数の患者を国内で発見した。
患者は全員、男性と性行為を行う男性（MSM）で、海外渡航歴のない者も多く、国内における感染が強く疑われた。また性感染症である梅毒と臨床的・血清診断的に区別が付かず、梅毒患者の中にbejel患者が紛れている可能性が示唆された。
そこで本研究では、梅毒疑い患者からのTEN検出を試み、日本国内におけるbejelの流行状況を把握し、性感染症としてのリスク評価を行うことを目的とする。
