本研究では脳萎縮、認知機能、身体機能とその危険因子についての調査の実施が完了した前向きコホート研究である滋賀動脈硬化疫学研究(SESSA)に参加した滋賀県草津市在住の60～85歳一般女性約600名の冷凍保存血液・尿検体を用いて、新たに甲状腺関連ホルモン(血清TSH、FT4、FT3)および甲状腺自己抗体(抗Tg抗体、抗TPO抗体)と尿中ヨウ素濃度の測定を追加し、日本人女性の①潜在性甲状腺機能障害と認知機能低下・脳萎縮およびフレイルとの関連、②橋本病を含む潜在性甲状腺機能障害(低下・亢進)の有病率と尿中ヨウ素濃度等の関連要因について検討する。
