本研究では、健康なボランティア：20名により、骨格筋のMR像（脂肪画像）および超音波像を同一断面で比較し非収縮組織に含まれる脂肪、線維組織や細胞外液の分布を映像化し性状を明らかにする。非収縮組織の性状を考慮して、超音波装置による超音波減衰値、Shear wave speed等を利用して、脂肪組織と線維組織の客観的な定量手法を開発する。次に、栃木県大田原市在住の高齢者のボランティア：40名をサルコペニア判定の指標を用いて健康群と身体機能の低い群の2群に分け、上述の定量法で非収縮組織に含まれる脂肪と結合組織の定量し、サルコペニアあるいはフレイル関連指標として応用可能であることを証明する。
