Outline of Research at the Start

サルコペニアは「筋量と筋力の進行性かつ全身性の減少に特徴付けられる症候群で、身体機能障害、QOLの低下、死のリスクを伴うもの」と定義されている。有病率は加齢に伴い増加し、超高齢社会を迎えた我が国の社会的な問題となっている。サルコペニアは骨粗鬆症とも関連し、骨細胞より分泌され骨粗鬆症を引き起こすスクレロスチンが筋量減少をもたらす可能性が示唆されており、我々の研究でも筋量減少にスクレロスチンが関与していることを示した。本研究では、スクレロスチンがサルコペニアを発症させる分子機序を解明し、サルコペニアに対する新規治療法や予防戦略の開発へ向けた基礎的資料を得ることである。
