Outline of Research at the Start	腸内フローラは主要な死因の一つである血管病の新たな治療標的になり得るとして注目されている。ビートルート (Beta vulgaris L.) は一酸化窒素 (NO) の供給源となる硝酸塩を豊富に含む根菜であり、血管の健康増進に役立つことが知られている。その一方で、ビートルートの摂取と腸内フローラとの関連については明らかではない。本研究では、ビートルートを摂取することにより腸内フローラのバランスが変化するのか、また、それが血管病の本態である血管の機能的変化や構造的変化の改善に寄与するのかを解明する。これにより、習慣的なビートルート摂取の血管病に対する新規治療法としての応用を目指す。
