Outline of Research at the Start

脊髄性筋萎縮症 (SMA: Spinal Muscular Atrophy)を始め，神経難病を患っている人には，筋力低下のため介護を要する．本研究では，SMA患者向けに自律移動車椅子ロボットの開発を目的とする．本研究で開発するシステムは，SMA患者（申請者のラボに所属する日本人学生）に使用してもらい評価を行う．本システムは，神経難病の罹患者や介護を要する者に限らず，車椅子を利用する高齢者においても介護者の負担を軽減し，利用者のQOL(Quality of Life)の向上に大きく貢献すると期待できる．
