Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、歴史研究の視点と手法で、1840-1950年代の日本を発着点に航海した移民・移住者、留学生、文化人・専門職者、軍人・軍属者、旅行者等の環太平洋上の船内経験に注目する。移動中の乗船者の衣・食・住・教育・娯楽・交流・業務・帰属意識・新しい情報の秩序化を確認し、移動者の行為者性や個人・集団の力関係を検証する。本研究の意義は、①移動する経験を記録すること、②移動という制限された時空に潜む政治性をあぶり出すところにある。成果としては、日本の「国際化」「移動制限」等、現代に通じる改革課題への提言を含め、移動の新解釈（主に移動と資力との関連性、移動にみる多文化の交渉と秩序化）を日英両言語で公開する。
