Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では、1920年代末～60年代、両大戦前後の世界再編の中、欧米の帝国主義的競争とブラジルの辺境開発の舞台となったアマゾンへの日本人入植という、世界史上空前の広域移動の過程を、個々の移民の体験に即して明らかにする。また、日本人が欧米資本と競合しつつ、アジアからアマゾンに移植した農産物の土着化という稀有な試みの歴史的意味を明らかにする。こうした極東から新大陸の辺境への人やモノの移動と定着・拡散の過程を当事者である移民の視点から探究することによって、「新しい世界史」の新領域の開拓と「日本人の歴史としての日本史」の空白を埋める試みとする。
