Outline of Research at the Start

近代日本を代表する出版社・博文館の活動について、その知名度や社会への文化的貢献の大きさに比して、十分な研究成果があがっているとはいえない状態にある。雑誌誌面の分析が中心で、関係者の一次資料の精査がなされてこなかったことがその一因である。そこで本研究では、博文館で長く編集者を勤めた坪谷善四郎の関係資料の目録作成、解読、翻刻を通じて、編集者が果たした社会・文化史上ならびに思想史上の意義について検討を加えていく。他の出版社との比較も通じて、広く日本近代の出版文化を歴史上に位置づけることを目指し、目録等、今後の研究基盤の整備にもつながる成果を着実に上げていくこととする。
