Outline of Research at the Start	本研究では、９～１０世紀の天皇と、その制度を維持するために神祇信仰がどのような役割を果たしたのかを考察する。具体的には、具体的には、天皇の代替わりの奉告や災害の鎮静化の祈願のために、天皇が神祇や山陵に語りかける形式をとる「告文」を中心に考察し、「告文」そのものを定義し直す。そして、仏教と陰陽道で願意を伝える文書との比較検討を通して、「告文」の特徴を明確にし、天皇と神祇信仰との関係の展開過程の解明を図る。「告文」という文書の特性を明らかにすることによって、古代における天皇の君主権の質的変化と神祇信仰との相互作用を解明しようと考えている。
