Outline of Research at the Start

ミャンマーの脱植民地化の過程――イギリス植民地支配下の1930年代から、第二次世界大戦期の日本の占領と撤退、1948年の対英独立を経て、長期軍事政権の成立する1960年代に至るまで――において、国民と外国人を区別し境界づける国家主権がどのように立ち上がり、社会に影響を及ぼしたのかを検討する。具体的には、①戦争による移民パターンの大変動のなかで新生国家の出入国管理制度がどのように形成されたのか、②混成的な首都ヤンゴンにおいて「外国人」と見なされた人々の経済活動に対し、新生国家や多数派の人々がどのような認識を持ち、どのような行動を取ったのか、を同時代の行政文書や外交文書、新聞記事などから探求する。
