Outline of Research at the Start

地中海を中心とする大帝国を築いた古代ローマ人は、時空間的にきわめて大規模な奴隷立脚社会を形成した。その支配下、特に東地中海世界には、ローマ人と同じく奴隷制の伝統を有するギリシア人も含まれていた。
近年の研究では、ローマ人の奴隷制とギリシア人のそれの特質がそれぞれ解明され、「複数」の奴隷制が西洋古代に存在したと強調されているが、各奴隷制が互いに影響を及ぼし得たかについては、十分に掘り下げられていない。そこで本研究は、ローマ支配期（前2世紀～紀元3世紀）のギリシア人社会を対象に、ローマ的な奴隷システムの影響を明らかにすることで、奴隷制を基軸とする新たな古代ローマ世界発展史の構築を試みる。
