Outline of Research at the Start

本研究の目的は、享和3（1803）年の麻疹流行を事例として、当時の旅の状況を、〔1〕疫病に対する旅人の行動と認識、〔2〕疫病による旅と名所への影響、という2つの視点から解明することである。
近世の旅と疫病の流行をあわせて検討することで、旅の視点からは、観光的な側面を持つ当時の旅や名所見物を検討するだけではわからない、近世の旅の特質について新たな知見をもたらすことが可能である。加えて、疫病の歴史という視点からは、疫病の流行が社会に与えた影響や、人々の疫病に対する認識の考察ができると考えられる。
