明治37年に使用開始となる第一期国定国語教科書が、東北地方における「イ」と「エ」、「ス」と「シ」のような発音の混同の矯正を意図した仮名の提示に始まり、「イエスシ読本」と呼ばれるのは、よく知られた事実である。しかし、当該地方において、教員たちが訛音をめぐりどのような議論をしていたのかについては、十分に明らかにされていない。本研究では、明治33年の奥羽六県北海道聯合教育会委員会での討議「東北地方ノ発音ヲ矯正スベキ適良ノ方法如何」に着目し、背景やその後の影響を含めて解明する。
