Outline of Research at the Start

染色体の高次構造維持において中心的な役割を果たすコヒーシン等のSMCタンパク質複合体の機能は、主に単細胞生物(酵母)と生化学によって精力的に研究されてきた。他方、SMC複合体が多細胞生物の適切な発生にも必須であることが断片的に報告されつつある。しかし、個体発生の過程でSMC複合体がどのような分子的および生理的機能を発揮しているのかという本質的問いに対する理解は驚くほど不足している。本研究では昆虫(ショウジョウバエ)のSMC複合体に着目し、その生物学的意義を発生生物学の側面から理解することを試みる。
