Outline of Research at the Start

Prokaryotic immune systems have led to transformative technologies such as monoclonal antibodies, RNAi, and CRISPR-Cas9. Now, a newly discovered reverse transcriptase-related defense system promises to be the next breakthrough. Certain RTs have been reported to synthesize near-infinite repeat cDNA upon phage infection, producing toxic proteins that inhibit phage proliferation. However, its activation and regulatory mechanisms remain unclear. This study aims to elucidate such RT mechanisms and develop novel gene and protein synthesis technologies.
