Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、糖尿病が歯周病を引き起こす仕組みの解明を目的としています。歯周病は口の中の細菌によって進行する病気ですが、近年では細菌の影響だけでなく、身体の状態、とくに糖尿病との関連が強く指摘されています。歯肉にある「接合上皮」と呼ばれる組織が、糖尿病によってどのように傷つき、細菌の侵入を許してしまうのかを、マウスや細胞を用いて詳しく調べます。さらに、そうした変化を防ぐ物質や方法を見つけることで、歯周病の予防・治療法の開発につなげることを目指します。本成果は、糖尿病患者における口腔の健康維持や生活の質の向上に貢献することが期待されます。
