Outline of Research at the Start

歯周炎（歯周病）は複数の細菌からなる複雑な細菌叢（細菌の集団）と宿主の免疫応答との相互作用によって進行する慢性的な炎症性疾患だが、どの細菌がどのように宿主の免疫遺伝子の発現を変化させるか、その詳細な仕組みは十分に解明されていない。本研究では、歯周炎患者の治療前後に採取した歯周ポケット内のプラークおよび歯肉溝滲出液のサンプルを用いて、細菌の組成や活動性と宿主の遺伝子発現を縦断的に解析する。これにより、疾患の発症や治癒に関与する細菌叢や宿主遺伝子の特徴を明らかにし、新たな診断法や治療予測法を開発を目指す。
