Outline of Research at the Start	褐色脂肪は従来の白色脂肪と異なり、エネルギーを蓄積する組織ではなくエネルギーを熱に変換する組織である。褐色脂肪組織は従来はヒトの若年期に失われると考えられてきたが、PETーCTの発達により中年期以降も残存していることが明らかになった。歯周病に罹患すると、全ての人が肥満になることはないが、歯周病と肥満との関連性が知られていることから、褐色脂肪と歯周病の関連性について研究を行っている。歯周病に罹患することにより、褐色脂肪の機能低下が起こり、そこに食生活の乱れが加わると、肥満が進行するという仮説をもとに、基礎研究および臨床研究の両面からアプローチをし、健康寿命の延伸に寄与できることを目的としている。
