Outline of Research at the Start

ニューギニア高地は紛争社会と呼ばれ、争いが頻発する。それらの争いは、慣習的な仲裁、政府が導入した村落裁判、キリスト教の告白儀礼など、多様な方法で対処されている。そこでは、紛争の原因を蒸し返すと怒りが増幅する危険性があるため、紛争の原因究明をうまく避けながら、当事者の怒りを「調停」しながら解消する「感情の調停」が行われている。この紛争感情の動態を真に深く理解するには、感情の状態に至る心身（情動）の動きのプロセスを考察するだけでなく、フィールドの情動に巻き込まれる調査者自身の心身の変容を省察するプロセスをも主題化する「紛争と情動の人類学」とその民族誌の方法論を発展させる必要がある。
