本研究は、パツァプ・ニマタク著『根本中論般若釈』の解読によって、インドからチベットへ継承された中観思想の内容を明らかにするものである。後代のチベットの伝承によると、パツァプは「中観帰謬派」の創始者とも言われ、7世紀にチベットへ中観思想を最初に伝えたインド人学僧シャーンタラクシタとカマラシーラの中観解釈に異論を唱え、それを越えようとした。彼の中観帰謬派の解釈は、後のチベットの中観思想に大きな影響を与えたが、本研究は、その詳細を検証し、中観思想史の解明に寄与する。
