Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度はナイキストパルス伝送の高速・大容量化ならびに周波数利用効率(SE : Spectral Efficiency)向上への最終的な取り組みとして、(a)ノンコヒーレントナイキストパルスを用いた単一チャネル10Tbit/s伝送の実現、(b)波長多重ナイキストパルス伝送、ならびに(c)コヒーレントナイキストパルス伝送の単一チャネル15Tbit/sへの高速化・高SE化、の3つに取り組んだ。
(a)に関しては、2.56Tsymbol/sのシンボルレートで単一チャネル10.2Tbit/sの超高速伝送を2.5~3.7bit/s/HzのSEで実現した。10Tbit/sへの高速化にあたり、ノンコヒーレントナイキストパルスの340fsへの超短パルス化、4次分散まで考慮した高次分散補償、ならびに非線形ファイバループミラー(NOLM : Nonlinear Optical Loop Mirror)を用いたゲート幅230fsの超高速光多重分離を実現した。これらの技術を結集し、単一チャネル10.2Tbit/s信号の225km伝送(SE : 3.7bit/s/Hz)および300km伝送(SE : 2.5bit/s/Hz)を達成した。
次に(b)に関しては、ナイキストパルスの波長分割多重(WDM : Wavelength Division Multiplexing)への応用を目指して、1チャネルあたり1.28Tbit/sの超高速WDM伝送システムを構築した。この際、光通信用波長帯(Cバンド)で18Tbit/sのWDM信号を僅か14チャネルで生成することにより、1.28Tbits×14波WDM伝送を3.7bit/s/HzのSEで実現した。
(c)に関しては、最終目標であるコヒーレントナイキストパルスを用いた単一チャネル15.4Tbit/s、SE=8.3bit/s/Hzの超高速・高効率伝送に世界で初めて成功した。具体的には、コヒーレントパルスのシンボルレートを1.28Tsymbol/sまで高速化し、64QAM(Quadrature Amplitude Modulation)方式により単一チャネルで10Tbit/sを凌駕する究極的なコヒーレント超高速伝送を実現している。その際、ホモダイン検波回路における自己ビート成分の低減、および多重分離に関与しないトリビュータリを抑制するための光ゲート回路の導入により、ナイキストパルスの高OSNR化を図っている。これらの要素技術により、単一チャンネル15.4Tbit/s-150km超高速コヒーレントナイキストパルス伝送を8.3bit/s/Hzという極めて高いSEで達成した。
以上により、ナイキストパルスが高速性と高SE化の両面で極めて優れた伝送性能を有する究極的な光パルスであることを実証することに成功した。
