Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This project aims at developing a new high-pressure apparatus for measuring neutron diffraction measurements which can precisely control pressure even at low temperature conditions. The scientific target is to obtain crystal structure and physicochemical properties of high-pressure phase ices. By combining liquid nitrogen and cryostat apparatuses, we achieved the low temperature limit down to 40 K. The apparatus enabled us to conduct neutron diffraction measurements at high pressure and low temperature regions where we could not achieve. We clarified the mechanism of salt incorporation process in ice VII which is a high pressure form of ice. Furthermore, a new model on hydrogen ordering process in iceVI was proposed.
