| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We investigated a lot of collections that German, Russian, British, Otani Expedition brought back from Central Asia, now scattered among Museums throughout the world. On the basis of these materials, we integrated and arranged materials appeared in already published, created basic data on Buddhist Art of Central Asia. Based on these data, we have examined and made clear some unique aspects of the generation and transfiguration of Buddhist Art of Central Asia focusing on the Art of the Faith of Sakya, Maitreya and Amitabha. Our research on Buddhist Art of Central Asia carried out closely linked to related Buddhist studies, having the perspective that the cultural exchange between South Asia, and East Asia. The results of our research project were published in the Final report (April, 2018).

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究では、中央アジア仏教美術に関する基本的な資料集成に基づき、中央アジア仏教美術の実態を解明しうる中核となる３つのテーマ(1)釈迦、（2）弥勒、(3)阿弥陀信仰の美術の生成と変容を中心として、中央アジアを地方様式のひとつ、単に文化の交差点とみるのではなく、新たな造形や信仰を創出する場と捉え、複合的な視点から諸相を明らかにした。本研究はインドから中国への仏教美術の伝播、変容、展開の様相を具体的に浮き彫りにしたのみならず、仏教美術研究と仏教学の連携によって、未だ不明瞭な部分の多い大乗仏教とそれに関わる美術の成立と発展の様相についても新たな視点を提供している。
