Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this research, optical fiber probes for endoscopic photoacoustic imaging were developed. This probe consists of a bundle of hollow optical fibers delivering excitation laser beams and a single-mode optical fiber with polymer film at the distal end for acoustic detection. A bundle of extremely thin hollow optical fibers was fabricated to improve the resolution and metal coating was applied on the fiber's end to improve the sensitivity for acoustic wave. By using the newly developed probe, photoacoustic images of biomedical samples were successfully obtained.
