Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, we investigated to identify the "activation" molecule of osteoclast associated with c-Src-p130Cas axis and further clarify its function in vitro. A comprehensive analysis was performed using osteoclasts derived from c-Src- or p130Cas-eficient mice. We have identified some candidate proteins as "activation" molecule of osteoclast. Among them, we focused two molecules, protein phosphatase 1 regulatory subunit 18 (PPP1r18) and Bif-1. PPP1r18 serves as a negative regulator of c-Src-p130Cas axis-dependent bone resorption. Bif-1 modulates osteoclastic bone resorption by regulating c-Src-p130Cas axis-dependent osteoclastic survival.
