Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study was to trace, from the viewpoint of comparative literature, how the various desires surrounding girls interacted with the historical and political context in the modern Japanese and Russian culture in the course of forming "the novels for girls". Through the analysis, the following three aspects were clarified. The first is that this genre was formed in accepting "the novels for girls" of Western Europe and the United States. The second is that the strengthening of gender standard through experience of wars lead to construct a frame of narrative intermingling colonialism and paternalism. The final aspect is that such story as this spreaded among girls of those days as the background of progress of female education and development of mass-media by high-volume printing technology. It is thought that these features were partially shared among modern Japan and Russia.
