Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The research investigated the current situation of aspect system used in Kumamoto Prefecture, which is a ternary system comprised of suru-forms, siyoru-forms, and sitoru-forms, and furthermore, proposed grammaticalization of siyoru-forms used in West Japan, renyou-forms + wori, used in Old Japanese, and siteiru-forms used in current Japanese. The research focuses the usage "preservation of a static state," which is a core meaning of wori (witari), and proposes that grammaticalization of siyoru-forms, and renyo-forms+wori, siteiru-forms developed from this meaning. Furthermore, this research proposes that ri-forms used in Old Japanese developed from "existence with manners" usage.
