Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research aims to reveal why Japanese learners are not good at writing logically in English by finding out their systematic errors of metadiscourse markers and to make suggestions on teaching methods for writing. The result shows that English proof-readers corrected some metadiscourse markers overused by Japanese learners but didn't others, which indicates that corrective feedback on metadiscouse markers does not always work. This study stresses on corpus-based writing instructions for Japanese learners, leading to pedagogical suggestions.
