Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research project examined how native speakers use memory resources when understanding the grammatical dependencies between words, focusing on SOV languages. We tested various constructions in Japanese and Turkish, including adverbial NPI dependencies and nominative-genitive alternations. We found that higher-order grammatical relations might pose memory load in some cases, and that such tendency was stronger for high-capacity participants.
