Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study aims at investigating the intercultural negociation in the modern and contemporary Mediterranean. It concerns mainly the plural legal system in the colonial context with reference to the case of "Algerian Muslim Law. It explores the role played by translators and interpreters.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

F.ブローデルの提唱以来半世紀以上がたち、地中海史の研究はあらたな段階をむかえつつある。そのなかで本研究は、法文化の多元性と循環という視点から貢献することを目的とする。本研究の学術的意義を広くとらえるなら、以下の三点があげられる。第一に、地中海史という枠組みの根拠を再考しようとする空間の視点。第二に、近世を舞台として理論化された地中海世界像を、その前後の時代においてどのように位置づけるのかという時間の視点。そして第三に、ヨーロッパ史とイスラーム史という研究分野の区分を架橋しようとする視点である。
